Whoa….K-On! LOL…..Review time

K-On has managed to get me back to playing my electric guitar after so many months of not having time or just plain neglecting it.

Anyway…sorry for the lack of screenshots…I’m too tired right now lol.Next time though…

Not sure if anyone else here has caught an episode or two but Yui, one of the main characters, willingly joins a “Light Music” club (or rather POP club) and attempts to learn the guitar. Since she doesn’t have one, the club, with Yui in tow, has to go out and help her make a purchase. After one visit to a music store and browsing through some guitars, one particular guitar catches her eye.

Since it was a pretty expensive guitar, the club had devised a plan to obtain jobs all for the sake of purchasing Yui’s “Ideal” guitar. I’m telling you, at least Yui has taste. It’s reminiscent of a Les Paul Guitar….however it’s odd because while it says Les Paul, I could swear it says Fender on the top of the ‘headstock’ where there should actually be the name ‘Gibson’ imprinted. Well it is indeed modeled after a Les Paul Gibson…in fact the same model I was looking at before I ended up purchasing a Les Paul Epiphone and I’m happy with my purchase from last year but I still vow to get that Gibson someday.

I could hear my ‘Kuro-chan’ in the corner sobbing but I won’t neglect my poor guitar any longer. I’ll make sure to disturb the neighbors soon….that’s the fun part since they’re just a bunch of stupid college kids that rat me out every time one of my guests temporally park their vehicle in front of my garage…they’re only dropping something off anyway. sheesh. Our townhome community administration complains how much of a safety hazard it is and how we block the entrance to the community (Ugh….I’ll complain about this another time…I’m off track here)

Anyway back to the series…the club takes on the job of examining traffic….well…they count the number of vehicles that pass by on a particular street. Fun fun…

After that gig is complete, they realize they’re still short on a few funds so the drummer of the band and self-appointed president of the club, Ritsu motivates the team to pick up another job in order for Yui to get her dream guitar. Yui begins to feel some guilt over the fact that the rest of the band is busting their tails off for Yui so she hands back the money that they worked very hard for and decides to just invest in a cheaper guitar so that they can begin lessons right away and not hold the rest of the band back.

So it’s another trip to the music store right after school and Yui is once again attracted to the same Les Paul guitar. The rest of the bandmates sympathize with her and this is when Tsumugi, also known as Mugi-chan, decides to try her hand at “bargaining.” I think that the only reason her bargaining actually worked was because we find out that her family actually owns the store….Mugi-chan is an Ojousama by the way. So anyway, she manages to lower the price to 50000 yen…which in American dollars is approximately $500. Not bad actually and for a guitar like that? Wow…

Now that Yui had her ideal guitar, it’s time for lesson! I’ll cover that in another post. For now just check out the series if you have not done so or are just out of other viewing options. It’s a lighthearted series and the animation is quite good…can’t expect anything less from Kyoto Animation right? I admit, I’m not a fan of their usual character designs but the animation is nothing short of brilliant especially when it comes to instrument playing.

(Speaking of Kyo-Ani, I must be the only one in this world who is NOT a Haruhi fan but probably because I was once involved in the domestic release of this overly praised title…working on this was such a head-ache…another reason why I may discourage people from working in the DOMESTIC US side of the anime industry)

Well, here’s a clip of K-On’s OP and ED…I especially love the ED. Oh…and I think I love Mio…she’s hilarious.

OP

ED

I definitely need to purchase the Manga for this title. And I also MUST stop doing reviews at 3:30am. Heh, heh.

Until next time,
